Epilogue

Nothing is more disappointing than a politician who treats people as ignorant fools. Nobody likes to be taken for granted. People may have a momentary lapse of judgement sometimes, but self preservation entails that people will take right decision. The deafening silence of common people, absence of any agenda of those opposing Modi and various schemes launched by him, make him a strong contender.

Democracy should be participatory, aimed at good governance. However in India, like many places, it has become a lucrative business. Political parties are formed to loot the people. A Quora user summed up the position like this:

"..We nourish our Parliamentary system where it is believed that the role of the opposition is to oppose and role of the treasury bench is to ignore the point of opposition. There is no participatory parliamentary system in India whereby both treasury and opposition benches join together, exchange their ideas on what is perceived good for the people and the country. It is believed by both treasury and opposition benches that they may get elected by the people only if one party could demonish the views by the parties in the opposite side..."

This is not a happy situation. It becomes worst when media too becomes a gun for hire. In this era of social media and internet, common people will have to step into make democracy work. This work is an attempt to raise right questions. There may be more questions. Please do raise your questions.

The silence of common people is deafening. People are not talking their political views in public. It is unusual for India. Here people tell fellow traveller that their third child was born due to torn condom. Yes, they do talk so much. But now it is all silence in respect of politics. Only people talking in public are those who are friends. Strangers are silent. Too silent.

As explained in earlier chapters, the win of 2014 was not just historic but it was against too many odds. The election of 2019 would not be any less interesting. The real magic will be in numbers. Now that we know how and from where those numbers would come from, it would be interesting to watch.

However the polarisation of political parties into two groups may produce startling results. It makes it easier for people to vote but it will be difficult for the political parties without mass base to survive this polarisation. The results of elections of 2019 may usher a new era in politics in India.

Whether Narendra Modi wins or not in 2019 or not, he is certainly unstoppable. If for any reason, 2019 results in hung Parliament, it would be another election with in one year. Though it seems very unlikely even by most ardent supporters of Congress Party.cccxxxixListen to this conversation: https://youtu.be/MmEsLAku2As

Future will reveal if Modi proves to be a Visionary who will build the Nation or would be added to the long list of dream merchants etc.

With USA leaving Afghanistan, the region is entering into a dangerous era. We must brace for impact. First wave of tremors are already felt in Kashmir. We are headed to troubled times. From Punjab crises to Kashmir and the Naxalite crises, India is in the midst of a war. It's citizens seem unaware of this larger war beyond the Jihad at their door step and within. Are they?
